The 2019 Premier’s Reading Challenge is open!

Your child has been invited to take part in this year’s NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC). This is a program that encourages students to read quality fiction and non-fiction books from a selected list nominated by the premier’s office.

What does the challenge involve?

To become involved in the challenge, Kindergarten students need to experience 30 books, 25 of these books need to come from the K-2 PRC booklists. Five books can be their own free choice.  Children can read the books on their own or be read to by parents/carers.

For years 3-6 students need to read 20 books, 15 of these books must be on the PRC booklists and 5 books can be their own free choice.

PRC books can be found in our school library and in local council libraries. Students and parents are welcome to borrow PRC books on their borrowing day.

For the PRC booklists, please visit:  https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/booklist/home.html

All books need to be read and recorded online by 30th August 2019. In term, four students who complete the challenge will receive a certificate from the PRC team on completion.

How to register and record books online:

Students can begin their reading now and log on from 4 March.  To log on:

1. Go to the PRC website https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/logon.html or Google Premier’s Reading Challenge NSW 2019.

2. Select the “log on” button from the menu on the left of the PRC website

3. Enter the student’s DEC user name and password. Your child’s class teacher will provide your child with the DEC user name and password shortly (this is the same as the one used by students to access the internet at school).

4. Enter tile or author of your book.

Happy reading!
